Young Women’s Dual Diagnosis Project

This project is an educational tool for service providers about the needs of young women with drug and alcohol and/or mental health issues. The DVD explains what dual diagnosis is and how best to assist young women facing complex issues. Young women talk about what helped and what didn’t help when they sought assistance. There are also practical responses to commonly asked questions.

Commissioned by The Richmond Fellowship of NSW and created by FrenchBaker in collaboration with Iris Pictures.

Not in My House

Not in My House is a series of dramatised vignettes about how domestic violence harms women, children and relationships, regardless of cultural background. The DVD is part of a package of resources created by BCS Lifecare for use in Men’s Domestic Violence Behaviour Change Groups and in training professionals who encounter domestic violence as part of their work lives.

The stories are drawn from a wide cross-section of Australia society including Aboriginal women, newly arrived migrants and other cultural groups, all of them saying the same thing: “our stories of living with domestic violence need to be told”.

Take 1

Take 1 is a short drama designed to raise awareness among young people about respectful relationships and what abusive and controlling behaviour looks like. Commissioned by Baptist Community Services (NSW & ACT) the DVD is used as a discussion starter in the ‘Take 2′ respectful relationships workshops offered by BCS to secondary school students throughout NSW.

45 & Up healthy aging study

Assoc Prof Emily Banks at the Sax Institute

The 45 & Up study is the largest study of healthy aging ever undertaken in Australia, with a cohort group of 260,000 people aged 45 and over. The cohort group is managed by The Sax Institute in partnership with health institutions. Iris Pictures produced a short program to tell the human story of this ground-breaking study, featuring four members of the cohort group and four research projects currently underway.

Anti-Slavery Project

Duration: 3 x TVCs, 4 x 5-minute educational programs

The Anti-Slavery Project commissioned Iris Pictures to create a TV advertising campaign and a series of educational videos to raise awareness about slavery, extreme labour exploitation and trafficking in Australia. The theme of the campaign is ‘Slavery Happens Here’ and the Community Service Announcements are based on real experiences of people who have been trafficked to Australia and used as slaves.

Every One with a Story to Tell

UnitingCare Burnside’s Children Young People and Families group offers services to a wide range of people including young fathers and their children, Aboriginal families, people with mental illness and older people. This program is a window into some of these services and the people whose lives have been turned around and enriched by them.

Natural Fertility Service

This program introduces CatholicCare’s natural fertility service and follows the stories of several families who have successfully used the method to plan their family and achieve pregnancy.

Duration: 20 mins plus educational discussion-starters

This educational program was commissioned by Early Childhood Intervention Australia to help early childhood professionals to identify children with hidden disabilities. The program tells the story of four families whose child has benefited from early intervention. Educational triggers for early childhood students explain how to observe children, what to look out for and how to talk to families when you have concerns about their child’s development.

Family Dispute Resolution

CatholicCare offers Family Dispute Resolution to separating families including parenting plans and negotiating settlement of property and financial matters. Iris Pictures created a docu-drama for CatholicCare clients using this service.

Family Relationship Centres

Duration: 10 minutes plus 8 x 2 minute web videos

Relationships Australia NSW commissioned a dramtised educational program about their Family Relationship Centres and the services they offer to families including counselling and mediation. A series of short web interviews explain the steps in Relationships Australia’s family dispute resolution process.

The documentary series Handle with Care is about the life-saving work of the Newborn and Paediatric Emergency Transfer Service (NETS). Using stories from the series, Iris Pictures cut together a short promotional program for NETS, which was shown at fundraising events. The video was successful in helping NETS raise $80,000 at fundraising events in 2003.
